Nephew Asks for Help, Neighbors Come Running

UPDATE 6-16-15

We are deeply saddened by the news today of David Farnin’s passing. Condolences to the family, our thoughts and hearts are with them.

Over $5600 raised in eight days for this beloved 30-year resident & Sports Association coach

We recently spoke with Cliff Snyder, who created a GoFundMe campaign to help his aunt Nancy Hillanbrand-Farnin manage expenses incurred during his uncle David’s years-long battle with brain cancer.

For Cliff growing up, Uncle David was a fun guy who knew stuff. He taught all the cousins how to fish and crab, and took them to amusement parks, and always knew how to have a good time.

In his own words:

“My uncle, David Farnin has been battling cancer for several years. He is the father of 5 children and 1 grandchild. Since his battle with cancer he has not been able to work which has put a financial burden on his family.

His cancer has spread and he is currently unresponsive. He has been a dedicated father and husband who has always worked hard to provide for his family. Since being out of work he has lost his life insurance and this will add an even larger burden on my aunt, Nancy Hillanbrand Farnin.

Any amount donated will help lift some of the financial burden they now face. Please help the Farnin Family in their time of need.”

Donations immediately started coming in, and have continued to the tune of almost $6,000 (in just 8 days) in increments from $25 to $1,000!

Not surprising —  the Hillanbrands are a very well-known family here in East Falls, and David was quite a neighborhood fixture:  he ran and coached in the East Falls Sports Association for many years (baseball & basketball), plus he was an active parishioner at St. Bridget’s, helping out at Masses and events.

And now that his family needs a hand, East Fallsers are stepping up! How great to be a part of such a responsive, generous community. To join the effort, simply click to donate. And maybe send them a mental hug as you read this.

The fight’s not over yet.  According to a May 19th post to Cliff’s facebook page, David has been taken off the ventilator and is receiving more treatment this week.  Our thoughts are with the Farnin Family during this stressful time. Thanks, Cliff, for letting us know how we can help.
