A Preservation Primer for Fallsers

May 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

A free presentation explaining what neighbors need to know about respecting and protecting our architectural legacy.

Development, while welcome in many ways, in recent years has become an active threat to Philadelphia’s historic and architectural legacy – both in Center City, and increasingly in the neighborhoods. This program will help you understand:

—The differences between the various historic registers and markers

—What structures in East Falls are already on one or more register?

—How does a property come onto the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, and what are the implications?

—What are some of the architectural styles found among East Falls houses, and how do these styles help date a house?

–What are some on-line resources for learning about the history of Philadelphia’s built environment?

Speakers will include: Caroline Slama (The Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia); Stephen Fillmore (East Falls Forward); Ken Hinde (Philadelphia Water Department, Architecture lecturer and tour guide): Steven Peitzman (Drexel University)
