A honeymoon and family reunion down in Dixie!

Mr. and Mrs. D got married this year after many years together. They both are on fixed incomes so they are mindful of spending money, but just like most other brides and grooms, their dream was to take a honeymoon. It’s been more than 15 year since Mr. D has seen his son and daughter who live in the South, so the destination was Dixie!  He has not seen his grandchildren since they were infants.

Mr. D’s son Derek offered for the couple to stay with him during the visit. The Amtrak ride down with Mrs. D’s first time traveling to the South and her first time seeing farm animals. Derek made sure they were well fed and their first stop was at the Waffle House. That evening, Derek organized a surprise birthday party where Mr. D’s daughter came up from Florida as well. Mr. D got to dance, which he said he had been waiting to do since getting married.

Besides visiting with family and seeing grandchildren, Mr. D was able to see some location settings used in Tyler Perry movies and TV shows. Mr. D’s granddaughter has been in some of his movies.

Mr. and Mrs. D had a memory-making trip and were thrilled to share their story with their social worker, Andy.
